Late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, is currently topping the vote for nomination of the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for possible induction.
The Rock and Roll hall of fame is an American Awards based organisation, awarding and celebrating outstanding rock and rock artistes.
The award has five categories namely performers, non-performers, early influences, lifetime achievements and sidemen.
Fela is currently leading the votes with 56 thousand plus votes while Tina Turner follows closely with 52 thousand plus votes on the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame official page.
The Nigerian music icon was nominated alongside Mary J. Blige, Kate Bush, Devo, Foo Fighters.
Others are; The Go-Go’s, Iron Maiden, Jay-Z, Chaka Khan, Carole King, LL Cool J, New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine, Todd Rundgren, Tina Turner and Dionne Warwick.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation chair, John Skyles, this remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates.

Fela Anikulapo Kuti is regarded as the originator of Afrobeat in Nigeria; an African music genre combining traditional Yoruba music and Afro-Cuban music with funk and a bit of jazz.
He came to fame in the 70’s known for his constant criticism of the military regime in Nigeria at the time. He was fearless. He founded the Afrika Shrine regarded as an ancestral home for Afro pop music.
Banky W, Adesua Etomi Welcome Baby Boy
Nigerian musician, actor and political hopeful, Bankole Wellington (Banky W) and his star Nollywood actress wife, Adesua Etomi have welcomed a baby boy.
Banky W revealed this on his social media page where he appreciated God for their new bundle of joy.
The couple have been receiving congratulatory messages across social media platforms.
The two lovebirds got married in 2017 a few months after their engagement blew up the internet.
The Wedding Party, arguably the biggest movie of the couple’s acting careers is one of Nigeria’s biggest box office movies.
#14th Headies: Wizkid Emerges Artiste of the Year as Fireboy, Omah Lay Win Big
Wizkid was awarded as the Artiste of the Year at the 14th edition of the Headies Awards as Fireboy DML won four awards from his total of nine nominations.
The YBNL-signed artiste, Fireboy won an award each for his two albums, “Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps” and “Apollo”.
Omah Lay took home the Next Rated Award which is arguably the headline award every year as it comprises new artistes who have earned grand entries into the Nigerian music industry. Omah Lay was nominated alongside Bella Shmurda, Tems and Oxlade.
Wizkid, alongside his Artiste of the Year gong also won the Headies Viewers’ Choice Award.
Nominations for the 14th Headies were released in December 2020 with Fireboy DML picking up most nominations. Wurld, Burna Boy, Wizkid and Davido were next as they had six nominations each.
The award which was hosted by comedian, Bovi and actress, Nancy Isime sprang up to life when Wizkid surprisingly made his way to the hall to the excitement of his fans.

Davido’s “IF” Earns Gold RIAA Gold Award in the U.S.
Davido’s “IF” has hit gold status in the United States, after he sold 500,000 records of the solo single.
The Gold award, given to songs and albums that sell 500,000 records is Davido’s second and are the only two afrobeat songs from Africa to hit the landmark.
The artiste took to his Twitter page on Wednesday to announce his new achievement.
The certification was done on the 12th of February, less than a year after his “Fall” single also earned the gold status.
