Chelsea has acquired the services of Portuguese star Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid for a £46.3 million fee, and in return, Conor Gallagher transferred to Athletico Madrid for £36 million.
The Blues have agreed to a £42m guaranteed payment for Felix and £4.3m in additional payments, with the 24-year-old signing a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Felix spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he netted ten goals in 44 matches.
“I’m really happy to be back at Chelsea, and I can’t wait to get started. I can see familiar faces from the last time I was here, which is always nice.
“I loved my time here before and told my friends and family that I’d love to return to the Premier League one day. To do that with Chelsea is a great feeling, and I’m excited to be back.” Felix said.
Chelsea has made the ex-Benfica player their tenth summer signing, bringing the club’s summer spending to £202.6m and making them the Premier League’s biggest spenders.
Despite this, Chelsea’s transfer business might not be finished, as they want to bring in a new striker. Napoli’s Victor Osimhen has been a target for Chelsea all summer, but they are not looking to sign him on a permanent deal.
Conor Gallagher Heads in Opposite Direction
Felix’s signing paved the way for Gallagher’s transfer to Atletico Madrid, which was officially announced on Wednesday morning.
Gallagher’s move seemed to have fallen apart after Chelsea’s attempt to acquire Atletico striker Samu Omorodion fell through, but the deal was reinstated after Chelsea agreed to sign Felix.
Atletico was steadfast in its determination to sign Gallagher. They were impressed by his performance during his five-day visit to Madrid, which only strengthened their desire to add him to their squad.
The English player underwent a medical examination, agreed to a five-year contract with Atletico while in Madrid, and was photographed by the club at the Wanda Metropolitano before departing.
But the 24-year-old is officially an Atletico player after signing a deal at the club until 2029.
“It’s been an absolute honour every time I put on the shirt, and it was a dream come true to captain the team on many occasions. I loved every moment. These memories will last forever.
“I appreciate all the love and support from the fans. Hearing the chant of my name at the Bridge is a special feeling, and the banner you displayed meant the world to me. Thank you for everything.
“I wish the club all the best for the future, and I hope to see you all soon at Stamford Bridge!” He said
