Following the crisis-plagued Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday, Bruno Fernandes declared that if the team can perform at Anfield, they must “do it everywhere.”
After Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead from the penalty spot, Cody Gakpo cancelled out Lisandro Martinez’s unexpected United opening goal. However, Amad Diallo scored a late equaliser.
With a game remaining, Liverpool’s point puts them six points ahead of second-place Arsenal.
Although United is in 13th position, at least they have stopped their three-game league losing streak.
“We have received fair criticism,” United captain Fernandes told Sky Sports. We have dropped too many points, as evidenced by our standing in the table.
The midfielder stated that although the FA Cup match against Arsenal next week would be difficult for the holders, “we want to get to the final again.
“Even today we can’t be happy with a point. We need the points and we could have won the game at the end, but it’s a fair result. “I’m pretty upset. If we show this level at Liverpool, first in the league, why can’t we do this everywhere? It frustrates me.”
The midfielder also stated that he played a proper performance.
“We worked hard on the game today; the only way to get anything out of it is to play with heart and passion. You must work hard, which is why we learnt something today. We must carry this frustration into the next game to realise that this must be the level. We must do it everywhere if we can do it at Anfield.”
According to captain Virgil van Dijk, Harry Maguire’s late goal might have made things worse for Liverpool.
“We must move on, and we will,” he said, acknowledging his disappointment at losing points at home.
“We scored 2-1, and after that, the focus is on controlling the game and holding onto the ball for more than three or four passes. In some instances, we were too exposed and lost the ball too readily. We still have a lot to learn and must consider this lesson.”
Despite their opponents’ struggles this season, the defender claimed Liverpool had not undervalued United.
According to him, “That’s all the media, media talk.” It isn’t related to us. Today’s game was really difficult, and we were ready for it. None of that did occur to us.”
