FG to Recruit One Million Nigerians for National Census Exercise

The federal government of Nigeria will be recruiting a total of one million Nigerians to conduct the 2023 national census, the National Population Commission (NPC) has disclosed.

Stating its preparedness ahead of the long overdue census exercise, the Commission said advanced technological innovations will be made available for use by officials, as a way of curbing foul play on the part of high placed persons who might want to hijack or manipulate the process for their personal interests.

Speaking at a press conference in Ado Ekiti on Monday on the trial census, the commissioner representing Ekiti at the NPC, Deji Ajayi, said the federal government will bring one million Nigerians on board to participate in conducting the 2023 population exercise.

He added that nine towns across nine local governments selected out of the 16 LGAs in the state, had been outlined into Enumerated Areas (EAs) to make work more convenient.

Ajayi explained that the census exercise was paramount, as the total population of active citizens will be known, and statistics used in the planning of their welfare.

“The government will also use such statistics to plan for our youth, students and the health needs of Nigerians. They will also know the number of senior citizens who should be catered for.”

He further gave assurance, that the advanced technology to be employed during the exercise, will make it impossible for dubious persons to manipulate the facts and figures.
