As the present version of the FIFA Club World Cup will be stopped after the 2023 edition and, given the need expressed by the confederations for the champions of their premier club competitions to play each other yearly to stimulate competitiveness, the FIFA Council has collectively approved the idea of a yearly club competition as of 2024.
The winner of the UEFA Champions League and the winner of the intercontinental play-offs between the other confederations will square off in the championship match of this tournament, which will include the winners of all confederations’ top club championships.
The name, schedule and style details of the new competition are yet to be released. The FIFA Council came together today and unanimously passed several big changes to the international calendar over the period 2025-2030.
