Fédération Internationale de Football Association, FIFA, has sanctioned the Senegalese national team for the incidents that occurred during the second leg of the World Cup 2022 qualification play-off between Senegal and Egypt on March 29 in Dakar.

FIFA penalised Senegal’s soccer federation $180,000 for fan unrest during a World Cup quarterfinal game, including pointing laser pointers at Egypt’s Mohamed Salah in the penalty shootout, according to a statement released on Monday.

Senegal went on to win the penalty shootout in Dakar in March, with Sadio Mane, Salah’s Liverpool colleague, landing the game-winning penalty.

The Algerian Federation will also be fined nearly 3,000 euros for using smoke bombs and throwing items during the Algeria-Cameroon play-off on March 29 in Blida.

Algeria, on the other side, requested that the match be replayed due to “scandalous refereeing” by Gambian Bakary Gassama, according to the Algerian Federation.

Also, FIFA sanctioned Nigeria $154,000 following the chaotic behaviour of fans at the end of the second leg Qatar 2022 World Cup play-off between the Super Eagles and Black Stars of Ghana at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on March 29.

Angry fans threw caution to the winds causing a breakdown of law and order; invading the field and destroyed facilities after the match as the Black Stars edged Nigeria out of the Qatar 2022 race on the away goals rule.

The match ended 1-1 but the two had earlier played out a goalless draw in the first leg in Ghana.FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee lamented the lack of orderliness and safety at the match venue.
