FIFA Rankings: Argentina Tops, Super Eagles Drop to 40th (News Central TV)

Nigeria’s Super Eagles dropped five places to 40th in the current FIFA rankings following their defeat in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.

In March, Nigeria was defeated 1-0 by Guinea-Bissau in the first leg of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. However, they responded with a victory in the rematch at the September 12 Stadium in Guinea-Bissau.

Following the poor results, the Super Eagles have slipped in FIFA’s newest standings. Nigerians were ranked 35th in prior ranking. However, they are now the world’s 40th-best squad and sixth in Africa. They trail Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt.

Morocco’s most recent victory over Brazil had no effect on their standing, which still places them 11th in the world.

However, Brazil paid the price for their loss, with World Cup champion Argentina displacing them from top place.

The Selecao fell to third place, while France ascended to second place with victories against the Netherlands and Ireland in the final round of Euros qualifications.

The top seven are Belgium, England, The Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
