Fire Destroys Historic Al-Ahram Studio in Egypt

One of the Africa’s most iconic and oldest film production studios – Al-Ahram Studio in Cairo has been completely razed by fire.

The prestigious Al-Ahram Studio in Cairo, founded eight decades ago had extensive damage which spread to nearby buildings on Saturday morning.

Firefighters battled the blaze for over five hours before evacuation to nearby residential buildings. The outbreak occurred hours after a Ramadan television series production, Al-Ahram added.

Founded in 1944, Al-Ahram Studio has been instrumental to the film and television industry.
It houses a screening room, and an editing suite across its 27,000 square metre campus.

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Culture Nevine El-Kilany were at the site for an impact assessment of the fire incident.

The Prime Minister said government will support every family affected by the fire with EGP 15,000 (about $300) to help them with temporary accommodation pending repairs of their homes.

According to state media, no fatalities have been recorded and several injured were transported to hospitals for treatment.
