A fire incident on Saturday night destroyed a section of Kada Cinema, located in the Marina Resorts at the Cross River state capital, Calabar in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
According to reports, the fire was ignited by an electric surge at Studio 4 of the cinema, where it was contained.
The Managing Director of the Cross River Tourism Bureau (CRTB), Ojoi Ekpenyong, confirmed this in a statement on Sunday.
“Our attention has been drawn to news making the rounds in some social media platforms purporting that the Kada Cinemas Calabar has been completely burnt down following a fire outbreak in one of its studios,” Ekpenyong said.
“There was a fire outbreak in one of the studios due to electrical surge on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at about 10:20pm.
“The fire incident was contained in Studio 4 where the flames broke out and did not impact on other areas.”
The Kada Cinema MD added that “We, therefore, wish to put it on record that the Kada Cinemas is NOT BURNT DOWN. All other sections: The VIP, Studios 1, 2 and 3 are not affected and are intact.
“Businesses at the complex including the Bistro, and ticketing areas are fully functional. However, once cleaning is completed, hopefully, later on , the cinema will be opened to movie lovers and fun seekers within the week.”
He further called on the public to disregard the misinformation going on in social media regarding Kada Cinemas.
“We remain committed to serving you the best of entertainment and relaxation and seek your support and understanding in the present circumstances while we commend the EPZ fire fighters for their prompt intervention,” he said.
