A fire outbreak on Wednesday in the Oke-Apomu area of Ilorin, Kwara State, destroyed seven rooms in a 20-room building after being ignited by an unattended gas cooker.
The incident, which occurred around 2 p.m., engulfed parts of a storey building at Alfa Koro Compound before firefighters arrived to contain the blaze.
Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the fire, stating that emergency responders received a distress call at 1:53 p.m. and quickly mobilized to the scene at No. 90 Koro Compound. Upon arrival, firefighters found multiple rooms consumed by flames and worked to prevent further destruction.

“Out of the 20 rooms in the building, 13 were successfully saved, while seven were affected by the inferno,” Adekunle stated.
He added that preliminary investigations confirmed the fire resulted from an unattended gas cooker.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urged residents to prioritize fire safety to prevent similar incidents in the future.
