A fire at a nursing home in Hebei province, northern China, resulted in the deaths of 20 people, according to state news agency Xinhua.
The fire erupted on Tuesday night in Longhua County, near Beijing. By early Wednesday morning, the death toll had reached 20.

Survivors have been relocated to nearby hospitals for observation and treatment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Deadly fires are a recurring problem in China, often attributed to inadequate building regulations and insufficient safety measures.
Recent incidents include a vegetable market fire in January and a construction site fire in December.
