Fire tore through Kara Market, a well-known wood and timber hub in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, early on Sunday, destroying numerous shops and properties worth millions of naira.

Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze spread rapidly before firefighters arrived at the scene.

“We just saw smoke everywhere, and before we knew it, the flames had engulfed most of the shops,” said Musa Bello, a trader at the market.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, but officials have confirmed that no lives were lost.

The Kebbi State Government has extended its sympathies to the victims.

In a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Abuzaid Yari described the incident as “unfortunate” and expressed hope that Allah would replenish the traders’ losses.

Yari also praised the state fire service for its prompt response, which helped to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of all citizens.
