A fire at Yan Katako Market Rijiyar Lemu, Kano State’s Fagge Local Government Area, burned around 25 stores and N150 million in merchandise at midnight.
The market’s chairman, Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, informed reporters that the fire started at 1 a.m. on Monday.
He stated that the inferno damaged approximately 25 shops storing plywood, foam, spray machines, chairs, and other woodwork supplies.
The chairman noted that the cause of the incident has yet to be discovered.
He did, however, compliment the Kano State Fire Service officers on their rapid response.
He urged the state government and donors to help them, as many traders had lost their source of income.
When contacted, Saminu Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the State Fire Service, confirmed the event.
He did, however, clarify that the inferno entirely destroyed approximately 25 establishments, while numerous more shops were touched or partially harmed by the fire.
“We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi said in a statement.
