Firefighters have successfully contained a fire that broke out early Monday morning in Masiphumelele, near Kommetjie, South Africa.
Emergency services were alerted shortly after 4:00 am to reports of structures engulfed in flames within the community. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson, Jermaine Carelse, highlighted the challenges faced during the operation. Law enforcement had to be called to patrol the fire lines after attempts were made to cut fire hoses.
“The fire has been contained and we are slowly scaling back on the number of vehicles and staff needed at the incident. We should commend the firefighters, who, under trying circumstances did a sterling job by surrounding the fire quickly and prevented any further damages. Staff will remain on site until the area is declared safe,” Carelse stated.
Fire crews will remain on-site until the area is declared safe.
