First Lady Margaret Kenyatta met with her Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) counterpart Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi on Friday, during which the two leaders discussed projects in their respective nations.
Mrs Tshisekedi was informed by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta that her Beyond Zero program will continue its charitable efforts after President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves office.
“Beyond Zero will continue to run independently because we have local support as well as international partners willing to walk with us in championing the welfare of children, girls and women in the country,” First Lady Margaret Kenyatta said.
The Margaret Kenyatta Institute for Gender and Social Development, which was just launched, focuses on women’s empowerment by providing them with resources, education, and healthcare facilities, according to the Kenyan First Lady.
When asked how she was able to make such significant progress in women’s empowerment in such a short period of time, First Lady Margaret Kenyatta said collaboration with partners led by the Ministry of Health, County Governments, local and international stakeholders were the main drivers of Beyond Zero’s success.
First Lady Margaret Kenyatta gave her visitor a tour of a Beyond Zero mobile clinic stationed at State House in Nairobi as part of their engagement.
Mrs Tshisekedi, who leads a Beyond Zero-style initiative in her country, told her presenter that her charitable work entails assisting underprivileged children, girls, and women across the vast country.
Mrs. Tshisekedi is in the country with her husband, President Felix Tshisekedi, for the signing of the Treaty of Accession to the East African Community (EAC) by the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is being hosted by President Kenyatta in his capacity as Chairperson of the EAC Heads of State Summit.
