    First Nigerian Visually Impaired Professor is Dead

    Nigeria’s first visually impaired academic, Prof Jibril Diso is dead.

    On Friday, Lamara Garba, a spokesman at Bayero University Kano (BUK), announced Diso’s demise.

    Diso worked as a lecturer in BUK’s special education department until his death. He was born in the Diso sections of Gwale LGA in Kano.

    He began school in 1962 and completed his primary education in 1969. In 1979, he attended the Gindiri Blind Secondary School in Plateau state.

    He continued his studies at Kano’s Tudun Maliki School for the Special Needs before joining BUK’s special education department in 1994.

    In 2019, he became Nigeria’s first visually impaired professor.

    He received his PhD in special education from the University of Birmingham in London in 1991.
