Five individuals have been charged in Argentina over the death of British singer Liam Payne, who tragically fell from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires in October. Prosecutors announced on Monday that three of the accused face manslaughter charges, while the other two are charged with supplying Payne with illegal drugs.
The charges come after a thorough investigation into the singer’s death on October 16, when he fell from the third-floor balcony of his room at the Casa Sur Hotel in the Argentine capital. Payne, 31, had consumed a combination of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescription antidepressant before the fatal incident, according to prosecutors.
Two of the suspects have been detained, while the others, who includes Payne’s travelling representative, a hotel manager, and the head of the reception desk, are allowed to remain free. The individuals charged with supplying Payne with drugs include a hotel employee and a waiter Payne had met earlier in the city.
The news of Payne’s death sent shockwaves around the world, with fans, former bandmates, and family members offering tributes. His passing brought renewed attention to his struggles with substance abuse, which he had openly discussed in the past.
