Five Completely Burnt in Badagry-Seme Expressway Crash

A fatal accident occurred Thursday on the Badagry-Seme Expressway leaving five people completely burned to death and three others hurt. The incident was verified by Sulaiman Taiwo, Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Badagry.

The accident, according to him, happened at Akoro Village on the Badagry-Seme Expressway, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

A motorcycle with an unknown registration number and a Honda Pilot SUV with the licence plate LSR 772 HE were both engaged in the collision. Before striking the motorbike carrying gasoline, the Honda Pilot’s driver must have been speeding and lost control, according to Taiwo.

“The driver of the jeep collided with the motorcycle resulting in an explosion. By the time we got to the scene, the raging fire had burnt three persons beyond recognition, while two others lost their lives during the rescue operation. Three persons that survived the inferno were taken to the General Hospital in Badagry while the five corpses were deposited at the mortuary in the same hospital,” he said.

According to Taiwo, the area’s normality has been restored as a result of the quick action taken by members of the Customs Service, Fire Brigade, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and police.

Dr. Olatunde Bakare, medical director at General Hospital in Badagry, said in an interview with NAN that while the three survivors were getting care at the hospital’s Emergency Unit, some relatives of the deceased had come forward to claim the bodies.

The rate at which the hospital was treating victims of fire incidents was worrisome, so he pleaded with drivers and other road users to stop transporting gasoline in jerry cans in their vehicles.
