Five Things to Know About New Eskom Interim CEO Calib Cassim

Eskom Appoints Calib Cassim as ESKOM Interim CEO (News Central TV)

Following the contentious departure of André de Ruyter this week, Eskom has named Calib Cassim as its interim group CEO.

After his shocking interview with newsmen, De Ruyter resigned from the failing power company with the board’s consent.

In a statement released early on Friday morning, Eskom said he will assume the role with “immediate effect”.

“Mr Cassim will lead the Eskom management team until further notice. He was appointed as Eskom’s CFO in November 2018 after serving as acting CFO from July 2017.”

Below are five things to note about him:

1.He is a registered chartered accountant (SA) and holds a master’s degree in business leadership (MBL).

2.Cassim has been with Eskom since 2001, and was a former head of the utility’s regulation department.

3.He became chief financial officer in 2018, replacing Anoj Singh. Singh, formerly a Transnet executive

4.A chartered accountant, Cassim completed his BCom at the University of Natal and his honours at Unisa.

5.He has a master’s degree in Business Leadership.
