Heavy rains and a major overflow of the Orashi River have resulted in severe flooding in over 103 towns in Rivers State‘s Ahoada West LGA.

A visit to Akinima, the local government’s council headquarters, revealed that floodwaters had nearly completely swamped several homes and farms.

Some of the affected communities visited included Mbiama, Akinima, Engenni, and Enedua, among others.

Esedi Joe, Chief Press Secretary for Ahoada West LGA, stated that the council is overwhelmed and is seeking assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and international agencies.
