On Tuesday, African payments technology powerhouse Flutterwave revealed that online merchants in Nigeria can now receive payments from American Express. Consumers, businesses, and American Express corporate cardholders can pay e-commerce businesses in Nigeria directly.
This feature will also extend to Flutterwave merchants in nearby countries such as Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, and Uganda soon.
Merchants using Flutterwave can now access a new customer base consisting of American Express Card Members in Africa and around the world. This includes individuals with personal cards and business or corporate cardholders.
“At Flutterwave, we’re always looking for ways to connect the world to Africa through payments. This is one of our initiatives to ensure that more people across the world can pay using Flutterwave in Africa. We understand the value of providing shoppers with payment methods that work for them, as well as helping businesses to expand their customer bases.” Founder and CEO Olusegun Agboola said.
Shoppers will enjoy more flexibility in selecting their preferred payment method when purchasing from the company’s merchants. This partnership strengthens the American Express global network.
It expands the number of African locations where American Express Card Members can use their cards to buy various goods and services.
“This collaboration also provides more options for American Express cardholders across the globe regarding where to shop and what to buy. By offering American Express as a payment method, Flutterwave will make the payment process faster and simpler for American Express cardholders and improve the experience for e-commerce businesses, helping them start locally and sell globally.” Agboola added.
