Food Reaches The Terrorist-Besieged City of Djibo, Burkina Faso

The city of Djibo, in northern Burkina Faso, has been blockaded by terrorists, but local media have reported that the military has flown in some 70 tonnes of food to help feed the starving population.

There have been claims that nine hungry children have died as a result of the blockade, while the city itself has a population of roughly 300,000.

To help Djibo, people in other parts of Burkina Faso have started collecting money and food to send there.

According to military sources, the food has already been given out to the residents. Sidiki Tamboura, a Djibo local and the leader of a non-governmental organisation, says that highways leading into the city have been blocked off since February, exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe.

Overthrowing another military leader, Lt. Col. Paul-Henri Damiba, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré took control of Burkina Faso last week. Traoré was angry that Damiba had failed to end an insurgency that has killed and displaced thousands of people in the country since 2015.
