Footballer Christian Atsu was pulled from the rubble of a building with injuries following the earthquakes in Turkey, according to his club’s vice president Mustafa zat on Turkish radio.

Atsu, a Hatayspor player, was trapped following the earthquakes that killed at least 4,800 people. The Ghanaian forward, 31, has previously played for Newcastle, Chelsea, Everton, and Bournemouth.

Taner Savut, the sporting director of Hatayspor, is said to be still trapped inside the collapsed structure. Hatay was one of the locations most affected by the earthquake, and it sustained considerable damage.

“Christian Atsu was removed from the wreckage with injuries,” Özat told Radyo Gol. “Unfortunately, our sporting director Taner Savut is still under the rubble. He added, “Hatay was deeply affected. We are coming towards the end of the most dangerous hours.”

Atsu, who has 65 Ghana caps, joined Hatayspor in September 2022 after spending a season with the Saudi Arabian club Al-Raed. On Sunday, he scored the game-winning goal in the 90th minute of Hatayspor’s Super Lig encounter against Kasimpasa.

Ghana Football Association (GFA) tweeted: “We’ve received some positive news that Christian Atsu has been successfully rescued from the rubble of the collapsed building and is receiving treatment. Let’s continue to pray for Christian.”
