Former Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff was discharged from a hospital in China on Friday after spending seven days receiving treatment for an inner ear disorder. According to a statement from her press office, the 77-year-old left the Shanghai East International Medical Centre on Thursday and resumed her work at the headquarters of the New Development Bank (NDB) in Shanghai.
Rousseff was hospitalised on February 21 due to vestibular neuritis, an inflammation of the nerve responsible for balance. Her team confirmed that she is now recovering well.

The first female president of Brazil, Rousseff served from 2010 until her impeachment in 2016 over allegations of budgetary misconduct. After Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who appointed her as his successor, was re-elected in 2023, Rousseff was appointed to lead the NDB, a development bank established by BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—in 2014.
With Brazil holding the rotating presidency of BRICS this year, the country is set to host a summit in Rio de Janeiro in July.
