The former governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje has expressed his frustration, stating that he could have resorted to physical confrontation with his predecessor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, had they crossed paths at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Kwankwaso had a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, where they discussed the unfolding security situation in Kano State following the demolition conducted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration. Ganduje, while addressing State House reporters, voiced his discontent.
“I know he is in the building but we have not met. Probably if we met, maybe I could have slapped him.”
Ganduje criticised the demolition, highlighting the lack of investigation and proper notice in accordance with the Land Use Act.
He stated that he extensively discussed the matter with the President and submitted a petition with video evidence of the looting and vandalism that occurred during the demolition to the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba.
Referring to the current governor as a “puppet” of Kwankwaso, Ganduje mentioned that the governor was now unhappy due to the widespread condemnation of the demolition.
The state governor justified the demolition as part of his commitment to “restore” the urban development masterplan of the city. He also stated that the exercise was not motivated by vendetta against the previous administration of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and hinted at more demolitions to come.
