Following their arrest last week, former Guinean Prime Minister Ibrahima Kassory Fofana and three ex-cabinet members will face embezzlement charges in Conakry.

Recall that the ex Prime Minister was arrested last week Wednesday for embezzlement of public funds.

On Monday, Mr Kassory, former Defence Minister Mohamed Diane, ex-Environment Minister Oye Guilavogui, and ex-Hydrocarbons Minister Zakaria Coulibaly will testify before the Court of Repression of Economic and Financial Offences.

Kassory was Prime Minister from 2018 to September 2021, when President Alpha Condé was deposed in a military coup.

The current junta has promised to target corruption rather than begin a witch hunt on former regime officials.

After accusing former Prime Minister Cellou Diallo of erecting dwellings on public land, officials demolished his mansion in March.

Fofana served as Prime Minister of Guinea between May 21, 2018 and September 5, 2021. A macro-economist and specialist in economic policy, he previously held several strategic positions in the Guinean administration, including State minister for investments and public-private partnerships under the presidency of Alpha Condé and Minister of Economy and Finance under the presidency of Lansana Conté, and was candidate for the 2010 presidential elections.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso’s former President Blaise Compaore was on Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment for complicity in the 1987 murder of his predecessor Thomas Sankara.
