Former Chief of Defence Staff, Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi, has passed on after battling an illness related to old age for several weeks at his home in Abuja.
He died early on Sunday morning, according to family sources.
Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, also confirmed Admiral Ogohi’s passing.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiun. With deep sorrow, I announce the death of Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (retd.), a former Chief of Defence Staff (1999-2003).
“He passed on in Abuja in the early hours of today. More details will be communicated later,” he stated.
Admiral Ogohi served as Chief of Defence Staff from 1999 to 2003 and was the first Naval officer to attain the rank of four-star general in Nigeria’s military.
He hailed from Okura, Lafia in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Details about his funeral arrangements will be shared later.
