Former PDP National Organising Secretary Defects to APC

Electoral Reforms Needed to End Governors' Control Over Local Government Chairmen Selection

Abubakar Mustapha, the former National Organising Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has resigned from the party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State.

Mustapha, a former Head of the Civil Service in Kaduna, resigned from the PDP on July 15, 2024, in a letter to the chairman of Gubuchi ward in the state’s Makarfi Local Government Area.

He added that he willingly quit his membership in the PDP for personal reasons, thanking the party for allowing him to serve in various positions from the time he joined to the date he departed.

Bako’s resignation letter to the PDP chairman of Shaba ward in Kaduna North local government, dated July 19th, 2024, cited tragic happenings in the state chapter of the party, whose leaders appear to lack concentration and integrity, as reasons for leaving the opposition party.

He characterised party leaders as self-centered persons who want to control what happens within the PDP.

He did, however, say that it was a great honour to contribute his quota to the development of the PDP, which he acknowledged is currently in a bad position.

Sambo, for his part, stated in a letter to the PDP chairman of Gubuchi ward in Makarfi local government area dated July 15th, 2024, that he left the party based  on personal reasons.
