Prof. Sonni Tyoden, the immediate past deputy governor of Plateau State, has passed away.
The news of his death was confirmed on Sunday in Jos by former state governor Simon Lalong, who visited the late professor’s residence to offer his condolences to the family.
Describing Tyoden as a trusted political ally, Lalong said he was much more than a deputy, calling him a confidante, teacher, and mentor.

“He brought significant stability, wisdom, and experience to our government. He worked tirelessly to ensure that we had a successful eight-year tenure,” Lalong said.
Tyoden reportedly died at the age of 74 following a brief illness.
Before serving as deputy governor, Tyoden was a professor of political science and a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos.
