Four persons who were allegedly of “Bulgarian descent” were killed during a shooting on Thursday, according to South African police, in a posh area of Cape Town.
According to authorities, bodies with gunshot wounds were found in Constantia, an upscale neighborhood of the South African port city, of two women and two males between the ages of 40 and 50.
“The motive for the multiple murders is yet to be determined,” police said adding an investigation has been opened.
According to judicial and government sources in Sofia, one of the dead was thought to be Krasimir Kamenov, a prominent member of Bulgaria’s organised crime. However, police did not name the victims.
Kamenov, 55, is wanted on suspicion of murder and extortion, per an Interpol red alert.
Although Cape Town is a popular tourist destination, it is also a port city that is frequently the scene of turf battles between criminal organisations competing for control of the lucrative drug trade and other nefarious enterprises.
