Francis Ngannou Emerges Africa’s First UFC Heavyweight Champion

Cameroonian Mixed Martial Artist, Francis Ngannou dished out a martial arts masterclass at the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to emerge heavyweight champion.

Ngannou knocked out former belt holder, Stipe Miocic in the second round to take his official record to 16-3-0, as he became the first UFC heavyweight champion from Africa.

Nigerians, Israel Adesanya and Kamaru Usman are champions of the Middleweight and Welterweight categories respectively.

It is the 34-year old Ngannou’s 12th knockout victory and he’s rated the hardest puncher in the history of the UFC.

Ngannou knocked Miocic out in the second round with a bad left hook that saw the former champion lose composure. Ngannou followed up with more punches and ended the game in quick time, earning his fifth straight victory.

The Cameroonian has been hailed by those in the UFC circles and outside the sport. His next clash may be against Jon Jones who has indicated interest in fighting him.
