South African Police Service have arrested two suspected poachers in Letsatsi La Africa, Vierfontein on Thursday, August 5, 2021 in connection with cases of attempted murder and rhino poaching in restricted areas against species listed as threatened.
Five suspected male poachers were found near the Rhino Borma where the fence was already cut and one of them allegedly aimed a rifle at the owner and his two sons.
The complainant responded by shooting at the poachers, wounding one on his right leg and right arm.
The wounded 48-year-old suspect was taken to a hospital in Klerksdorp under police guard. The second suspect, a 43-year-old was also apprehended in the vicinity of the scene.
Three suspects escaped, while one pistol, magazine with five rounds, a .375 rifle with one round and an axe were recovered at the scene.
A similar case occurred on Friday July 30, 2021 where poachers shot, killed and dehorned a rhino in the same farm. While investigations are on, Poliwww.saps.gov.za/ce are still searching for suspects, now at large. It will proceed with charging the two suspects to the Viljoenskroon Magistrate’s Court soon.
