American third seed Coco Gauff reached the French Open semi-finals after mounting a comeback to beat Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur in an absorbing contest.
The 20-year old showed her maturity and mental resilience to win 4-6 6-2 6-3 at Roland Garros on Tuesday.
After a solid performance in the opening set from Tunisian, Jabeur, Gauff remained confident and began to find her rhythm as her opponent’s level began to dip.
A passionate roar as the US Open champion celebrated in the middle of the court showed the intensity and magnitude of the test she had just passed.
“She’s a tough opponent, I was trying to be more aggressive, she was playing well and hitting a lot of winners – which I’m not used to. I tried to be aggressive and I got a little bit tight but I did what I needed to do.” Gauff said
Gauff who was the runner-up in 2022, is looking to secure her second major title after her US Open win last year but she must first get past top seed Iga Swiatek who she plays in the semi-final on Thursday.
Swiatek crushed fifth-seed Marketa Vondrousova in the other quarterfinal in less than an hour.
