The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has successfully rescued six individuals involved in two serious road traffic crashes (RTCs) caused by container trucks in Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, commended the bravery and professionalism of the FRSC Rescue and Emergency Response Team.
He noted their swift action and resilience in saving lives during the incidents.
One of the crashes, caused by brake failure, occurred at 10:50 am along the Apapa-Wharf route near Flour Mill, 6 kilometres from Mile 2.
The accident involved two containerised trucks – a red Mack truck and a green Mack truck – both commercial vehicles.
According to the crash investigation report, four male victims were involved.
“One was rescued with injuries, including bruises and cuts, while the remaining three survived the crash unhurt,” he said.
The second crash took place on the Euro 65-Signal Barracks route, Mile 2 Oke, involving a Mack truck carrying a 40-foot container and a Toyota Corolla with registration number LSD293HJ.
The container truck fell onto the saloon car, trapping its occupants.
“The victims were rescued alive by the proactiveness of FRSC rescue team after the Mack truck (40 feet container truck) crashed and landed on the saloon car, “ he said.
Malam Mohammed credited these rescue successes to the proactive measures and professionalism of FRSC operatives, which align with directives to ensure swift responses as the end-of-year travel season intensifies.
He urged drivers to adhere to safety standards and called on fleet operators to provide comprehensive training for their drivers, to help them understand the dynamics of safe road use to prevent avoidable accidents.
