Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has vacated Government House in Port Harcourt, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

Our reporters state that Fubara left the premises on Wednesday morning, just as Admiral Ekwe Ibas (rtd.), the newly appointed Sole Administrator, prepares to assume office.

The atmosphere around Government House remained calm, with three armoured personnel carriers positioned at its main entrance. A security source confirmed that a change of guard had taken place, with all previous security personnel replaced by a new detail.

“The governor left Government House this morning and the new administrator is yet to resume. We are expecting him any moment from now. The security details in Government House have been reshuffled. I can tell you that everywhere is calm and nothing is happening as we speak now.”

Despite the state of emergency declared in Rivers State, residents of Port Harcourt continue their daily activities with no signs of unrest or disruption.

President Bola Tinubu announced the emergency rule on Tuesday, citing the vandalization of pipelines and the failure of stakeholders to resolve the state’s prolonged political crisis, despite multiple interventions.
