Full List: Covenant University Named Nigeria’s Top University in Latest Ranking

Covenant University (CU) has been recognised as Nigeria’s leading university in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings, highlighting its esteemed reputation in both teaching and research.

The 2024 THE Rankings, regarded as one of the most significant evaluations of university performance globally, assessed a total of 1,907 universities across 108 countries and regions.

The rankings are based on 18 key performance indicators, which evaluate institutions on various aspects, including teaching quality, research environment, research impact, industry collaboration, and international outlook.
Covenant University performed exceptionally well in these areas, securing the top position among Nigerian universities.

“We are thrilled by this recognition. Covenant University’s commitment to excellence in education and research has always been our driving force,” said a CU representative.

Covenant University’s performance places it within the global bracket of 800-1000, alongside the University of Ibadan (UI), which ranks as Nigeria’s second-highest institution.

Rounding off Nigeria’s top five universities are the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), the University of Lagos (UNILAG), and Bayero University in Kano.

The University of Oxford has maintained its status as the world’s leading university for the ninth consecutive year, setting a remarkable record in THE Rankings’ history.

Stanford University has climbed to second place, pushing Harvard University to fourth, while the University of Cambridge has slipped to fifth.

The 2024 rankings were based on an analysis of over 134 million citations from 16.5 million research publications, coupled with survey responses from more than 68,000 scholars worldwide, highlighting its thorough methodology.

Covenant University’s achievement highlights the capability of Nigerian institutions to meet competitive global standards, demonstrating their expanding influence on the world stage.
