Netflix series Squid Game has become the first non-English language Emmy winner after winning awards at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards which held at the in Los Angeles, California, USA, on September 12, 2022.

The South Korean survival drama was nominated for 14 Emmys and won 4, including awards for guest acting, visual effects and stunts production design.

Squid Game lead star Lee Jung-Jae won Best Actor in a Drama Series. This made him the first person from a foreign-language show and first Asian actor to claim the top acting prize. Lee outshined “Succession” stars Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong, Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, Jason Bateman for Ozark, Adam Scott for Severance, to win the category.

Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk won the drama directing Emmy.

The 2022 Emmy awarded TV shows and actors in the timeframe of June 1, 2021, to May 31, 2022.
