Gambia Participates (GP), an apolitical advocacy group in Gambia has called on the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to increase electoral awareness through voter education, especially in underserved communities.

The group made this recommendation, following its election observation mission, where it noticed that “voter education campaigns are occurring unevenly across the regions and thus encouraged stakeholders to intensify efforts in areas that are relatively uninformed.”

GP works towards promoting good governance in Gambia. Over time, it has encouraged political parties to always adhere to electoral codes, avoid violence, and do away with unlawful acts or practices for their own gain.

It has also enjoined political parties to encourage women’s full participation in politics by creating awareness, and avoiding bias.

Gambia Participates had previously, deployed sixty-five (65) Long-Term Election Observers, who were stationed in all the 53 constituencies. The team was mandated to closely monitor the nomination processes and political campaigns ahead of the April 9 parliamentary election in the country.
