Westeros may soon come to cinemas, with reports suggesting that at least one Game of Thrones movie is in very early development. Trade outlets The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline revealed on Thursday that Warner Bros is considering a film adaptation, potentially bringing the Game of Thrones universe to the big screen for the first time.
The Game of Thrones TV series, based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books, captivated global audiences and amassed 59 Emmy awards during its 2011-2019 run. The franchise has since expanded with the hit spinoff series House of the Dragon, and other TV adaptations are reportedly on the way.
Past discussions of a Game of Thrones film adaptation have reportedly stalled due to reluctance from Warner Bros Discovery. However, recent changes in studio leadership and the success of franchises moving between film and TV, like The Batman and Dune, may be prompting a fresh look at a cinematic debut.
While the movie remains in preliminary stages and no actors have been cast, industry sources indicate Warner Bros is quietly developing the project. A Warner Bros. representative has yet to confirm the reports.
