Garry Conille was officially sworn in on Monday as Haiti’s new Prime minister, succeeding interim leader, Patrick Boisvert. A short ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s office in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

The 58-year-old, who briefly served as Haiti’s prime minister from 2011 to 2012 will share executive powers with the Transitional Council.

He now faces a herculean task of restoring peace and order to the country as well as reforming delinquent institutions.

In addition to choosing the prime minister, the transitional council is tasked with arranging presidential elections before early 2026.

Prior to his appointment, Conille was the UNICEF’s regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean since January 2023.

The Caribbean nation still awaits the Kenya led-international police force that it hopes will help tackle the menace of gang violence that has grappled the country.
