Gemini AI Rolls Out Across Google Maps, Google Earth, and Waze

Gemini AI Rolls Out Across Google Maps, Google Earth, and Waze

Google has introduced its AI chatbot, Gemini, into its mapping applications, aiming to enhance user experience by offering more personalised and context-aware search results.

The integration, announced on Thursday, follows Google’s push to catch up in the AI sector and better compete with rivals like OpenAI.

With over 2 billion monthly active users, Google Maps now includes Gemini to provide more tailored suggestions, such as live music venues or nearby speakeasies, based on user contexts like time and location. “It’s not just ‘What’s near me?’ It’s actually ‘What can I do tonight?,” explained Miriam Daniel, Google Maps’ VP for Consumer Experiences.

Gemini’s integration also extends to Google Earth and Waze, offering AI-driven tools to developers and urban planners for analysing map data, as well as voice-commanded incident reporting for drivers using Waze.
