German police are searching for a man who attacked a 46-year-old woman on a tram in Gera, eastern Germany, on Sunday. The woman was doused with flammable liquid and set alight, suffering life-threatening injuries.
According to police in the Thuringia region, the woman was sprayed with a flammable substance and set on fire by an unknown man. As the tram’s passengers pressed the emergency stop button, the perpetrator took the opportunity to flee when the doors opened.

The tram driver used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames, but the woman was severely burned and required airlifting to the hospital.
Authorities have launched an active search for the suspect, who is wanted for attempted murder. Police are working to establish whether the woman and the attacker knew each other or if the assault was a random act.
