Ghana FA Set to Name New Black Stars Coach after CK Akonnor Sack

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to announce a new head coach for the Black Stars by the close of this week, according to reports.

Following defeat to South Africa in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the Ghana FA has confirmed the sacking of Black Stars head coach CK Akonnor.
In addition, all his two assistants have also had their contracts terminated with immediate effect.

“The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars Coach Charles Akonnor and his two Assistants with immediate effect,” a communique on the GFA website has said.

Ghana are set to resume the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in October and the GFA has tasked a newly-formed committee to settle on a new Black Stars head coach in the next 72 hours.

“The Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours,” part of the GFA statement has said.

The new head coach is expected to be unveiled immediately and commence work for the next round of the fixtures in the qualifiers.
