The board of the Ho Teaching Hospital, Ghana on Friday, praised the Volta Development Forum‘s (VDF) dedication to helping meet the public’s expectations for health delivery.
People of Volta ancestry who are members of the VDF, a non-aligned group, have been actively involved in bringing up issues related to the development of the region.
As chair of the hospital’s 2022 Annual Performance Review Meeting, Dr. Felix Nyanteh said the VDF deserved praise for its role in stabilising public trust, particularly during the facility’s conversion into a teaching hospital.
He said that the VDF helped improve the management environment of the teaching hospital by making it easier for top executives, employees, and patients to trust each other.
“There were difficulties during the transitional period; there were sporadic petitions from both internal and external sources. But by God’s grace, these petitions have been granted, and as our board chair asked, I will talk about the Volta Development Forum in particular.
They have been crucial in ensuring that the hospital has a calm and welcoming atmosphere and that the Ho Teaching Hospital is progressing. Therefore, the VDF deserves special praise because it did an outstanding job.
The coexistence of the VDF and the Ho Teaching Hospital has given the staff and, consequently, the CEO the confidence to occupy the chair and lead the hospital. We can now highlight some of the hospital’s accomplishments,” the board member said.
The theme of the review meeting, which was “Translating Our Innovative Tertiary Health Services, Medical Education, and Research into Medical and Health Tourism,” was “Translating Our Innovative Tertiary Health Services, Medical Education, and Research into Medical and Health Tourism.”
The CEO of the Teaching Hospital, Dr. John Tampouri, stated that all indicators had seen significant improvements in the year under review. He also said that the VDF had promised to give feedback on complaints and other ways to help and that they had kept the board and management informed about things that were important to the public.
“VDF brought power and other issues to our attention. We would get together and discuss problems until we had a solution. VDF has evolved into our hospital’s primary means of communication. Others take to social media, but they prefer to draw our attention to the issues.”
The Forum continues to be an important stakeholder in making the hospital a place where people want to go for healthcare. Most recently, the forum was able to get management to do something about complaints about bad human relations.
The VDF has been working hard to get the government and other interested parties to make the Ho Airport work so that the area can become a more popular place for international travelers. The VDF was started with the goal of making the Volta Region an all-around multibillion-dollar economy.
