Reports indicate that Ghana has abolished the directive that compels citizens to wear face masks in public.

President Nana Akufo-Addo made the announcement on Sunday, citing a steady decline in Covid-19 infections in Ghana and neighbouring nations as justification.

From Monday, the president also removed the necessity for fully vaccinated travellers coming in Ghana through the Kotoka International Airport in Accra to have negative PCR testing.

He did, however, advise Ghanaians to continue to adopt improved hand hygiene and avoid overcrowding.

Since December 2021, Ghana’s daily infection rate has been progressively decreasing.

So far, 160,925 confirmed Covid cases have been reported in the West African country.

Despite the World Health Organisation’s warning last week that the limitations were being withdrawn too soon, Ghana has joined dozens of African countries that have eased most Covid containment regulations.
