The Ghana Football Association has announced that the new Ghana Premier League season will begin on December 28, 2019. The decision was taken after a meeting between the GFA and the league clubs.

The new season is expected to start the same time as the Women’s League and the Division One League.

It was also decided at the meeting that all league matches that end in a draw will be decided by a penalty shootout, with the winner getting two points while the loser gets one point.

Ghana has suffered defeats in four major tournaments through penalty shoot-outs in 2019. The Black Stars exited the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations through penalties after losing to Tunisia in the Round of 16.

The Black Stars B team also failed to retain the WAFU Cup after losing on penalties to Senegal in the final. And at the just concluded U-23 AFCON, the Black Meteors failed to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Games after losing on penalties in the semifinal and the third-place match.
