Former Borussia Dortmund defender and current assistant coach Otto Addo has been named Ghana’s new head football coach. Addo will be assisted by George Boateng, replacing Milovan Rajevac. Rajevac was sacked a week after Ghana’s surprising early exit from the AFCON tournament at the hands of debutantes Comoros.
The defeat marked the first time since 2006 the Black Stars failed to go past the group phase of the tournament.
Addo a German-born former Ghana international had previous coaching stints at fellow German clubs Hamburg and Borussia Moenchengladbach.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) also appointed former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton as technical adviser.
However, the GFA did not give further details on the role the former Irish international will take on.
The Black Stars hope to bounce back from its disappointing AFCON showing by qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. It is slated to play two qualifying matches against Nigeria in March.
