Seventeen trafficked Nigerians who were victims in Ghana have been returned home by the Economic and Organised Crime Office, EOCO.

The 21 Nigerians were arrested at a location in Accra on September 26 when EOCO stormed in.

According to reports, some human traffickers took the victims, who are under the age of 20, to Accra so they could receive training in cybercrime techniques.

Seven of the suspects in human trafficking, according to Nana Antwi, the Deputy Executive Director of EOCO in Charge of Operations, were also apprehended.

“In conjunction with an NGO and the Nigerian High Commission, efforts have been made to send the 17 victims to their home country, Nigeria.”

“After the screening, it came up that seven persons were actually not victims but managers of the victims,” he added.

The seven were arraigned on October 7 and remanded pending further investigations. EOCO has been collaborating with Nigerian Anti-Human trafficking Authorities and other relevant agencies like the Immigration Service in Ghana. Antwi said the four victims left in Ghana to help with further processes.

Meanwhile, more than 20 migrants, mostly Eritreans and Ethiopians, who entered South Sudan illegally will be deported.

They allegedly entered the country without passports or other travel documents when they were detained upon arrival at Juba International Airport a few days ago, according to local media.
