Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo on Thursday, announced that entrance visa requirements for all visiting Africans will be lifted by the end of 2024.

The visa-free policy will be implemented by the Head of State as one of the last laws to put into effect before he hands over power next year January 7, 2025.

According to Akufo-Addo, the move goes in line with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to create a seamless single market on the continent to drive economic growth, create jobs, and eradicate poverty.

Speaking at the opening of the 2024 Africa Prosperity Dialogues in Ghana’s Eastern Region, the President said:

“The government of Ghana is committed to ensuring visa-free entry for all Africans traveling to our country,” Akufo-Addo said.

He added that “such policies are needed throughout the continent to ensure the free movement of people, goods, and services to use trade as a catalyst for economic transformation in Africa.”

Organised by the AfCFTA Secretariat and the African Prosperity Network annually, the summit serves the purpose of uniting African leaders for a common purpose. It enables Africa’s leadership to engage, create partnerships, and commit to achieving the African Union‘s Agenda 2063.

President Akufo-Addo also said the implementation of AfCFTA would be more representative, as concrete measures will be proposed, leading to Africans achieving prosperity for the African continent.

The Africa Prosperity Dialogue kicked off yesterday Thursday, January 25. The three-day event ends tomorrow Saturday, January 27, 2024.
