Ghana unveils a final 23-man AFCON 2019 squad list

Ghana’s Black Stars team for the Africa Cup of Nations has been unveiled with FC Porto striker Abdul Majeed Waris the biggest exclusion from the Ghana AFCON 2019 squad list. The striker spent last season on loan with Nantes and is one of five players cut from 28 players currently in camp in the United Arab Emirates.

Ebenezer Ofori who plays in the USA and also played at the 2017 AFCON, Ghana U-23 captain Yaw Yeboah and the local-based duo of Mohammed Alhassan (Hearts of Oak) and Abdul Safiu Fatawu (Asante Kotoko) were all dropped.

On Thursday, St. Gallen Centre-back Musah Nuhu returned to his Swiss club following an injury. Captain Andre Ayew, deputy skipper Kwadwo Asamoah, veteran striker Asamoah Gyan and Thomas Partey are all included in the 23-man list.

Ghana lost to Namibia 1-0 in a pre-tournament friendly on Sunday. Ghana will play South Africa in a second friendly game on Saturday before departing for Egypt five days later.

The four-time champions are in Group F and play against cup holders Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau.
